Oil executive helps former state Sen. Michael Rubio buy and sell two homes and radio talk show host Jaz McKay has a hissy fit after his colleague leaves for another station

 * ... RUBIO: Should we be surprised about the revelation that an oil executive helped former state Sen. Michael Rubio with the purchase and sales of two homes while Rubio was serving in the state Legislature? Rubio, a Shafter Democrat, says it was all on the up and up but the whole scenario hardly passes the smell test, especially given Rubio's squeaky clean image. Rubio described the oil executive, Majid Mojibi, as a close personal friend who just happened to help him with two deals, including one a $681,000 four-bedroom, five-bath home in El Dorado Hills. Don't we all wish we had friends like this? All this, of course, happened while Rubio was a rising star in the state Senate who later held hearings on the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Rubio has since resigned and moved over to Chevron as head of governmental affairs. And they wonder why the public is so cynical. (file photo of Michael Rubio, wife Dora, and their two children)

 * ... BAILEY: Local radio talk show host Ralph Bailey moves his afternoon program to KERN 1180 on Monday, a fact that seems to irritate to no end his former colleague Jaz McKay. McKay, who appears on KNZR, used Facebook to hurl some racist comments at Bailey, not to mention calling him a "a misogynist pig" who "hates women." Truly bad form, but hardly unexpected. Bailey will be my guest on Californian Radio KERN 1180 Monday at 9 a.m. to address the brouhaha over his departure and to kick off his new show. (file photos of Ralph Bailey and Jaz McKay)

 * ... JACK SMITH: I mentioned the late Los Angeles Times columnist Jack Smith the other day, prompting reader Marie Schroepfer to share these fond memories of her mother. "Jack Smith was her favorite columnist and his column was the first thing she read when it appeared in the paper.  Jack Smith, paired with breakfast, her favorite meal of the day, would make her day," she said. "Periodically I would return home to spend a few days with her. Always, when I sat down for breakfast the first morning of my stay, there would be a stack of Jack Smith’s articles that she had 'saved' for my next visit.  There was no getting around reading them during my stay as she would periodically inquire as to my progress.  She particularly enjoyed his description of the antics, and perhaps misbehaving, of his Airedale dog."

  * ... PLANK: I am always happy to report when one of our local foundations opens its wallet to help others. This time is is the Plank Foundation, which wrote a check for $10,000 to the Friends of Mercy Foundation/Florence R. Wheeler Cancer Center. It was the 12th annual donation from Plank in that amount, and it was presented at a meeting of the Bakersfield East Rotary. The Plank Foundation (www.theplankfoundation.com) was started in 1985 and supports locally the fight against cancer, hospice efforts and provides donations for immediate community needs.

  * ... MEA CULPA: I erred in reporting earlier that the fine dining restaurant Valentien would have a daily prix fixe lunch menu. The restaurant's new hours mean it will only be open for lunch on Fridays, when a prix fixe meal will be available for $16. A prix fixe meal will also be offered at dinner.

 * ... ACHIEVER: Hats off to Stephen Samples, who has been promoted to vice president of regional neurosciences at the Neurological Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. He is the son of Lora and Frank Samples, a local attorney. Stephen went to school at Trinity University in San Antonio and at the University of Texas Medical School.

This community has been a great place to work, educate my children and establish a home. I have; however, found it repugnant that a local radio station would employee the likes of Jaz McCay who on a daily basis pollutes the airwaves by spouting his racist and hateful rants. I hope those driving though Kern County and listening to his diatribes don't judge us by his antics. I hope our children never listen to him. We are better than that.

Mr. Mojibi is above reproach, and he can help anyone he wants. It is a straightforward story and neither one of them did anything wrong. Accusers, find something to do that matters....

Yet another "mea culpa," rather than a gross factual error. As always, the kind of error that even a beginning reporter would not make or at the very least would be excoriated by his boss for making. But, lalalalala, it's a "mea culpa."

I believe the quote from Mr. McKay that you refer follows: "Farewell to the man who although as much as he tried could not get past the fact that he is black.

Farewell to the man who's skin was so thin that he couldn't tolerate the slightest bit of criticism from anyone.

Farewell to the man who could never work with a woman because he's a misogynist pig and hates women."

I''m not certain this is racist. I did find Mr. Bailey to have the thinnest of skin, however. As for hating women, perhaps he simply can't understand us; but I did get a bit of a 'superiority' vibe. Nonetheless, this entire episode has certainly spiced up local radio.

I am so happy to see my friend Ralph land on his feet.

No one listens to your station and even less will now. I'd like to thank you for taking Ralph Bailey from KNZR. Now I don't have to turn my radio off at 3pm everyday because of the RINO.

Jaz is the best patriot voice we have in this county and I'm proud to say I listen every day! The Bakersfield Californian has turned into a liberal media rag and isn't fit to line my cats litter box. Ralph is a hack radio host and closet liberal. I'm glad he's gone and I can listen to a true conservative like mark Levine now in his spot.

So the CEO of the Bakersfield California, Richard Beene, has conveniently taken up the defense of former Radio Host Ralph Bailey in a recent paragraph of drivel aimed at defaming Jaz McKay. In his attempt at flaming Jaz he accuses him of saying “racist” things about Ralph on his (Jaz’s) Facebook page by stating the following…. “ McKay, who appears on KNZR, used Facebook to hurl some racist comments at Bailey, not to mention calling him a "a misogynist pig" who "hates women." Truly bad form, but hardly unexpected.”

He goes on to quote Jaz’s Facebook comments further by attributing this comment to Jaz "Farewell to the man with the biggest ego known in history... Farewell to the man who couldn't keep his story straight on his political beliefs... Farewell to the man who although as much as he tried could not get past the fact that he is black."

Now, taken out of context, stretched, twisted and looking though the glasses of a hopeless victim some could say that Jaz saying Ralph not being able to “get over” being black could be misconstrued as “racist”, but then, some could also say that spoons make people fat, or something completely ignorant and void of any common sense like guns make people kill……oh, wait.

But the reality is that this Chief Executive Officer, Dick Beene, has spoken in an official capacity on behalf of the paper to defame a man for simply stating the truth about Ralph Baily and that truth is, he is a fake, he was rude to most of his listeners that dared disagree with him and it’s well known that he was rude to most, if not all, women he was ever involved with as he openly disrespected them on multiple occasions on the air and as much as he tried………he really couldn’t get past the fact that he is black. Instead of trying to succeed as a black man, as so many have, he blamed his race as the cause for any negativity in his life or workplace. That’s not a racism problem, that’s a “little man” complex. Which is ironic, considering he is fat (or can I not say that either).

It’s really a shame that as a Citizen of this once great country you cannot disagree with or openly challenge the President of the United States or as in this matter, a chauvinistic, rude, and insignificant shock jock without being called racist, simply because of their race.

I have often been accused of being racist myself in my open dissent towards Obama which I must say, has been quite the news to my biracial family, my black wife and my black children.

Mr. Beene, birds of a feather really do flock together and you and your new Radio Host will do wonders in the eradication of any doubt that common sense is truly not a common virtue.

First of all, If you are going to bash Mr. Mckay, then you better look at Mr. Bailey as well... I have never seen Mckay disrespect , or use racial slurs towards Bailey ,or any other individuals... It just never seems to fail with you liberal news, media outlets. When someone has a conservative,or opposing point of view they are automatically labeled racist, hate monger etc... I am absolutely appalled by Beene's racial accusations .. How much more unprofessional can a so called CEO get? You have lost all creditabilty Mr Beene.... The Californian has been going down for awhile now,but I think it just hit its lowest.....

How sad...... Mr. McKay is a great talent and a real patriot. How sad that you would call him a racist. I'm just surprised that you would go to the race card Mr. Beene. I used to have so much respect for you and all of the reporters from the Californian but this is so sad. As I see from these comments here I am not the only person disappointed in your efforts to attack Mr. McKay. He is not a racist and BTW I think he was right about Mr. Baily. He never seemed to get past being black as he brought it into his POV every chance he got. I will not be listening to him on KERN as I am enjoying another patriot voice Mr. Mark Levin on 1560.

I want to thank you Kern for taking Bailey out of KNZR.. Nothing more pathetic then a fake conservative.. He was a racist, thin skinned , cocky liberal.. Nice try, at trying to pull off the whole conservative persona,.Many of us in Bakersfield saw through your b.s... Figure out who you are Bailey, and what you truly believe.. You flip flopped one too many times..

I wonder if it's possible to have McKay and Bailey on your program together. Probably not; but it would be an interesting hour.

While I never saw Jaz McKays original FB posting from the quotes I've read I'd say he know's Ralph Bailey pretty well.
