Padre Hotel manager critically injured in jet ski accident on Lake Havasu

I heard today that Drew Hall, the popular young manager of Bakersfield's Padre Hotel, has been critically injured in a jet ski accident on Lake Havasu. Padre owner Brett Miller told me that Drew and a couple other Padre managers were taking some time off at the lake when they went jet skiing on Tuesday. Apparently Drew went down and was hit in the head by another jet ski. He was airlifted to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Miller said Hall, who is in his early 30s, had responded to a doctor's command to squeeze his hand and that surgery was scheduled. Drew is a popular figure at the Padre and had planned to settle down in Bakersfield, enlisting a Realtor to help him find a home.

I will keep this young man in my prayers. While I don't know him, I am impressed with the bright young staff they have and they are always courteous.

I am Drew's aunt and thought I would update everyone. Drew has been in the operating room for the past 6 hrs. having the bones in his face put back together. They say things are going well but it is like putting a broken eggshell back together. They said he will probably lose his right eye and will need a prosthetic eye. When we saw him before the surgery he was sedated, intubated but would squeeze our hands lightly when asked if he could hear us. Once he gets out of surgery, will try to post update. Until then, we appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers.

Drew is now out of surgery. Surgeon said surgery went really well. They had to place 50 metal plates in his head. They said it was one of the worst skull fracture cases they had ever seen. The suregeon was able to reconstruct the area around his right eye which was bulging out. They were able to get it back in. They will be doing more tests tomorrow to recheck the facial and skull bones. He will probably remain intubated for the next week. They said he would not have any sense of smell after the surgery. Things are looking better but he has a long recovery ahead. Thanks for everyones prayers.

I have only had the opportunity to talk to Drew a couple of times however, his genuine personality was apparent right away. I just want his family and close friends to know that there are many people outside of his circle praying and wishing the best for him.

I've only spoken with Drew once at length and agree with the descriptions above. "Genuine" is a good way to describe him. Sharon and SD friends--please know that Bakersfield has embraced this young man and are keeping him in thought and prayer.

Update Thursday, 6/10/10
They have taken the breathing tube out and Drew is breathing on his own. He is actually talking some! God is Good! Prayers have been answered. They checked his neck today and and everything was ok so they took his collar off. They inserted a PICC line so they can give him meds and draw blood without having to keep sticking him all the time. They are getting ready to remove another IV since the PICC line is in place. He is asking for something to drink so that is a good sign. He is alittle confused at times but the nurses say this is all normal after this type of injury. The name of his injury is a Lefort 3 fracture along with a skull fracture. I will try to post againn later. Thanks again everyone for your prayers and concerns.

Drew had a great day today. His breathing tube is out, they removed the drain from his head. They got him up in a chair for about 20 minutes. They removed the bandages on his head also. He really looks good. They say that physical therapy will be in tomorrow to try to get him up to walk. I want to thank everyone for their prayers. I know he is improving because of Gods healing. It is truly a miracle from God that he is alive and doing so well. I am so thankful to for all of his friends here. I live in Virginia and it gives me great comfort knowing that when I have to go back home he will have so many people who care about him here.

Today has been a great day for Drew. They moved him from Trauma ICU to a regular room. He is now in room E365 at Sunrise Hospital. He is now walking a few steps to the bathroom and eating soft foods. His eyes are still swollen shut but the Dr. seems to think that they will be open by tomorrow. If anyone would like to email him they can go to: http://www.sunrisehospital.com/PatEmail.asp. They hospital will print out the email and send it to his room. He has enjoyed the ones he has gotten so far.
